Chic of the Week

Who: Model Coco Rocha.

What: A satin Chanel dress and super-high Louboutins.

When: Monday, July 14, 2008.

Where: Longchamp's 60th Anniversary bash at its Soho outpost in Manhattan.

Why: Everything about this look has a sheen and polish, from the navy satin of her party frock and her black patent oversized Longchamp clutch to her sleek, stick-straight locks and glowing, translucent skin.

Chic of the Week

Who: Claire Danes, actress and two-time Chic of the Weeker.

What: A silver v-neck Gucci dress with fringed sash and criss-crossed metallic sandals.

When: Tuesday, July 8, 2008.

Where: A celebration of Gucci's 70 year anniversary with a presentation of the Cruise 2009 collection and special dinner at the Villa Aurelia in Rome, Italy.

Why: As always, Miss Danes looks totally classic, cool and simple. Potsitively glowing and sparkling and radiant - making it clear what a no-brainer it was for Gucci to select the actress as the new face of their fine jewelry line.

When: Tuesday, July 1, 2008.

Where: The unveiling of "Couture Mascot" Daphne Guiness's The Phemonology of Body at the Crillon, Paris.

Why: The rumpled (yet somehow voluminous) icy blond hair. The slouchy (yet somehow form fitting) charcoal t-shirt, that you can tell is the softest of the soft. The risky (yet somehow refined) feathered skirt. All (somehow) perfection.

Chic of the Week

Who: Zani Gugelmann, socialite.

What: Salvatore Ferragamo, Spring/Summer 2008.

When: Monday, June 9, 2008.

Where: The Dance with the Dancers Gala, sponsored by ELLE and Salvatore Ferragamo, at the New York State Theater.

Why: The color and drape of the dress are both so soft and casually elegant. She could just as easily be at a garden party, not an NYC gala, with her fresh face and with only a metallic oversized clutch for accessories.

What: Marchesa, of course.

When: Sunday, June 1, 2008.

Where: The 2008 CFDA Awards in Manhattan.

Why: There is something so elegant yet so Addicted to Love about this look that I adore. The head-to-toe red (lips, dress, shoes) looks sleek and cool, not Designing Women. Totally spot-on.

Where: The NYC premiere of Sex and the City: The Movie.

Chic of the Week x2

To make up for last week's missing Chic of the Week (my apologies!), I have included two ladies in this week's post. And what better occasion to double up than with looks from fashion's version of the Olympics than the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute gala, which took place at the beginning of this week!

Who: German actress Diane Kruger.

What: A silver Alberta Ferretti, Fred Leighton Jewels and bright pink peeptoes.

When: Monday, May 5, 2008.

Where: Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute gala in Manhattan.

Why: I love the choice of short in a sea of long gowns and mile-long train, not to mention the quirky yet lovely (and semi-80s) pairing of fuschia with silver. Oh, and having Pacey as a date is not too shabby either.

Who: Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, model.

What: A multicolored, tiered strapless gown by Burberry.

When: Monday, May 5, 2008.

Where: Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute gala in Manhattan.

Why: The simple updo with a perfect bang, very sparse jewelry (which I love for evening) and interesting use of texture and color against this classic shape are perfection.

Who: Gwyneth Paltrow.

What: A form-fitting, knee-length Gaultier and Bulgari jewels.

Where: The premiere of her new movie Iron Man at the Warner Moderna Cinema in Rome.

When: Wednesday, April 23, 2008.

Why: First of all, I am obsessed with her new haircut and think it that it has been one of the best decisions she has made in quite a while (a far better one than many of her recent choices of films). Her makeup here is perfection--totally soft but still smoldering. And though I don't often love a one-shoulder gown, I think this looks very strong without being severe and fits her to a T.

[Belated] Chic of the Week

Who: Katie Lee Joel, cookbook author and wife of Billy Joel.

What: A long, shiny mane paired with a soft, sky blue vintage gown.

Where: The New Yorkers for Children benefit gala at the Mandarin Oriental in Manhattan.

When: Wednesday, April 16, 2008.

Why: The troubled musician's wife looks radiant, simply elegant and unfussy. Her long locks and the feminine curves of the dress make the look so uncomplicated, easy and completely appealing.

Chic of the Week

Who: Vogue's Sylvana Soto Ward, at right.

What: A mouse-gray shift dress from Roland Mouret's Pre-Fall 2008 Collection and Louboutin t-straps.

Where: Bergdorf Goodman's Welcome Back cocktail party for Roland Mouret in New York.

When: Wednesday, April 10, 2008.

Why: She's rocking this look much better than her runway counterpart--the fit of this knee-length dress on Miss Soto-Ward is immaculate. The Christian Louboutins are simultaneously sexy and demure. Perfectly polished but not stiff.

Chic of the Week

Who: Socialite Byrdie Bell.

What: A fur-trimmed, cobalt cardigan, yellow printed chiffon dress and black Louboutin pumps.

When: Monday, March 31, 2008.

Where: The Cinema Society screening of Smart People in NYC.

Why: The mix of the bright yellow and shocking blue looks punchy and ready for warm weather, while the fur accents on the shoulder make this ensemble look slightly tough, not dainty.

Chic of the Week: Calvin Klein Edition

I could not decide this week between two different looks, both of which happen to be Calvin Klein. You tell me who you think rocks their CK the best!

Who: Kate Bosworth, actress.

What: A Calvin Klein jacket and strapless dress paired with a Van Clef necklace.

Where: The IFC Center in New York City.

When: Wednesday, March 26, 2008.

Why: I am a sucker for fuss free hair and makeup for evening. Kate looks sophisticated while still looking fresh-faced and casual. Though this may seem like your average black, the shapes of both the jacket and dress are stunning and visually captivating.

Who: Mary Kate Olsen, actress (?) and fashion icon.

What: A Calvin Klein one-piece, hot pink Chanel belt, Christian Louboutins and vintage Miu Miu oversized clutch.

Where: The IFC Center in New York City.

When: Wednesday, March 26, 2008.

Why: A romper for evening is genius. I love the splash of color with the belt and because the ensemble itself is so uncomplicated, her signature mish-mash of rings and bracelets look just right and not cluttered. Totally fun and casually sexy.

Chic of the Week

Who: Actress Leighton Meester from, our beloved and very-missed, Gossip Girl

What: A bright blue Versace cocktail dress with a gorgeous neckline and draping

When: Wednesday, March 19th

Where: The launch party for Donatella Versace's revitalized menswear line at Barney's in NY

Why: Leighton epitomizes spring chic with her bright blue dress, white hot clutch, shoes & cuff, simple fresh makeup, and loose hair. This look is put together but doesn't age our favorite high schooler.

Side note- How much do you love the red shoes on the girl in the background?

Oh my, while perusing Nordstrom.com, I found this great look for less!

Lauren by Ralph Lauren Jersey Dress $134, Jessica Simpson shoes $78, Steve Madden clutch $115

Chic of the Week

Who: Handbag designer, Sang A Im-Propp.

What: A short, dark and frothy Miu Miu dress.

Where: The American Museum of Natural History's Annual Winter Dance in NYC

Why: I love that Im-Propp dared to go short in a sea of long gowns. I also love the brooding charcoal paired with nothing more than opaque black tights and that fabulous bright red clutch. Glamorous, effortless and a little edgy.

Who: Actress Camilla Belle

What: A one-shouldered Gucci for Fall 2008

When: Wednesday, March 5th.

Where: The premiere of 10,000 BC at Grauman's Chinese Theatre in Hollywood, CA.

Why: This favorite of Teen Vogue is the perfect blend of polished and gypsy, with her shiny, pin straight hair and paisley-adorned Gucci frock, complete with tassels and fringe.

Chic of the Week: Oscar Edition

Who: Actress Rosamund Pike

What: A pale yellow Roland Mouret creation.

When: Sunday, February 24, 2008.

Where: The 80th Annual Academy Awards at the Kodak Theatre in Hollywood, CA.

Why: This Brit actress (you might know her from Pride & Prejudice) looks radiant in this simple yet architectural one-shoulder dress, featuring a small peplum at the hip. Her easy hair and limited jewelry add to the freshness of this look, while the classic makeup keep it from looking too modern.
