The Gilded Age of DVF
As everyone knows, it is Fashion Week in New York this week. Seeing as we are not only flat broke, but also relatively unknowns, Alice and I are watching the runway via Style.com instead of from the front row. However, instead of feeling sorry for ourselves we are still keeping up with shows and will be highlighting some of our favorites throughout the week.
First up (for no particular reason other than she was on my mind after watching a repeat of last week's Rachel Zoe reality show where she visits her studio) is Diane von Furstenberg who showed yesterday, the 13th, in the tents.
DVF's collection was filled with beautiful colors that seemed inspired by an African safari or trip to the desert. Save for a few black or white ensembles, every look had a burst of saturated color - reds, yellows, and oranges as well as blues and greens. Gold was a major hue throughout the collection and the show culminated with a beautifully draped gold evening gown.
The collection had beautiful dresses, as one would expect from DVF, as well as separate pieces and a large number of jackets. The prints were global and mixed together beautifully in every look.
The models were heavily accessorized. Each model had wrists full of bangles and gold flowers in their hair, and most had a beaded handbag and a wide belt pulling their look together.
What do you think? Did DVF set a new gold standard or not? All photos from Style.com
