Hearing early buzz about a sequel to Clueless, beloved movie of my girlhood, I've been remembering the ridiculous inspired-by outfits I created as a twelve year old...not to mention blasting the soundtrack from my older brother's boombox oh and maybe reading the books they released post-movie. I became sort of unnaturally attached to the "whatevers" and "Bettys" and "Monets," yes, but I like to think I was not alone in my preteen obsession.
So I thought, what would I wear as a sort of then meets now interpretation of the iconic movie's look. I loved Cher's berets, headbands (she beat Blair by over a decade), short sleeves over long sleeved button downs, dresses over tees and inspired use of color, so those stay, but some things get a bit of an update. Mary Jane styles are still most certainly in the mix, but updated with multiple straps. The lace-up bootie also makes an appearance, as Miss Horowitz would clearly embrace this trend. Other updates include colorful thigh-highs replacing Cher's ubiquitous knee socks and more on-trend and on-season patterns like ikats and painterly strokes taking over where the star's argyles and plaids left off (though come fall, those are prints are always the right choices).
What are your favorite looks from the 1995 flick?
And we would be remiss to forget:

Ahhhh, yes CLUELESS...I know every word in the script like the back of my hand, I was 15 when it came out! I saw a sheer white walking jacket once at F21 about a year ago while shopping with a friend, and said "OMG this is the jacket Cher wore when she went to the party with Christian"...then we looked at eachother, then looked around us and wondered "do any of these girls in here know who the hell we're talkin' about!!" lol
Good memories...thank you :)
Hahah amazing. Is it wrong that I totally would have bought that? And would still probably wear about 99% of her outfits from that film, socially acceptable or not?
of course you could...90's chic is coming back...just leave the grunge and the hood looks alone. But nothing wrong with Cher or the Kennedy's.
