Clockwise from top left: Lancome Juicy Tubes Jelly in Berry Bold, $18 (available at Lancome); Basic Cami, $5 (available at Old Navy); Faux-lex Watch, $30 (available at Fred Flare); Grosgrain Floral Pelmet Skirt, $65 (available at Topshop); Aston Ankle Boots, $235 (available at J. Crew); Dioscuri Wood Bangles, $48 each (visit Dioscuri for more information).
It all started with these gorgeous nude J. Crew ankle boots. This understated hue is a big color this spring and I think there is no better to wear it than pairing it with brights. I love adding just a few punches of color, which really pop against the bareness of the nude elements. Rather than going for an allover statement like a fuchsia dress or brightly colored jumpsuit, I like the idea of instead being able to select where you want your color and how.
With these fantastic boots I'd throw on a vibrant floral skirt, a pop of vivid pink on the lip and some colorful chunky bangles (and a gleaming gold "Rolex" for good measure) for color and then slink into a skin tone cami. This would be a great look for grabbing an outdoor lunch with friends (or maybe a brunch time mimosa) - once the weather warms up, of course.
These boots will also be a perfect match with a pair of this season's darling the tapered leg pant or even a fitted bermuda short, perhaps once again in a nearly neon hue. The shape is so now and so great, but the barely-there shade makes them so wearable and versatile.
Sometimes you just need to start from the bottom up.
