Chic of the Week

Who: Lauren Conrad, TV phenom (because saying actress doesn't seem quite appropriate...).

What: A sparkly 3.1 Phillip Lim frock and metallic peep-toes by Christian Louboutin.

When: Monday, December 22, 2008.

Where: The Hills' Season Finale celebration at Tavern on the Green in New York.

Why: I think her hairstyle and dress are both festive and fun. I am also admiring that only metallic peep-toeand a bangle on the left arm serve as her accessories, letting the dress and red lips stand out (and preventing these two bold moves from looking much too much). I think this is a lovely holiday look and am happy to say well played, Miss Conrad.

Wish I May, Wish I Might

Clockwise from top left: Prada Crystal Earrings, about $300 (available at Prada, photo courtesy of StyleFinder); Vera Wang Snake Necklace, $550 (available at Vivre); Kenneth Jay Lane Turquoise Seahorse Pin, $150 (available at Electric Couture).

As you should already be able to tell, I have a bit of a soft spot for baubles. These costume jewelry and nature inspired pieces are at the top of my list this year - from Vera Wang's seductive snake to Kenneth Jay Lane's 60s style seahorse.

Clockwise from top left: Leopard Print Gauze Scarf, $28 (available at Urban Outfitters); Contrast Leather Gloves, now $79.99 (available at Banana Republic); Metal Floral Stretch Belt, $48 (available at Urban Outfitters).

'Tis the season for scarves and gloves - and every season is time for belts, as far as I'm concerned. These inexpensive accessories are a perfect example of fun little extras that you don't always think of buying for yourself (like this luxurious pair of leather gloves) but would love to receive. Otherwise known as the perfect holiday gift.

Members Only Velvet Leggings, $88 (available at Urban Outfitters); Marni Flower Appliqué Clutch, $525 (available at Net-a-Porter).

While leggings and I have mostly parted ways, this velvet pair from Members Only makes me want to declare detente with the non-pants as pants trend. After all, the holidays practically require you to wear at least a little velvet and who I am I to argue with that? And let's face it, this Marni clutch is a must, with its retro clasp and appliqué flowers (ringing in at under $600 ain't too bad either).

Loeffler Randall Matilde Embossed Snake Boot, $775 (available at Singer22); Dolce Vita Madison, now $119.99 (available at Piperlime).

I'm really feeling snakeskin at the moment, and love the peace of mind (and smaller price tag) that comes with knowing these embossed offerings are cruelty free. Dolce Vita's Madison pump is a wildly affordable option to consider adding to your list (or list of what to get once you return all the other stuff that missed the mark) or for those who dare to hope, the ubiquitous Loeffler Randall flat Matilde boot, done up in a rich milk chocolate shade is a very dreamy option indeed.

Chic of Two Weeks

Who: Rachel Weisz, actress.

What: A sequined Derek Lam, black pumps and a black satin bow clutch.

When: Tuesday, December 16, 2008.

Where: The premiere of The Wrestler in Beverly Hills.

Why: First of all, let's discuss her amazing hair. My frizzy, static-y locks are dealing with some serious, unadulterated jealousy issues right about now. Moving on, I just love that Rachel can take typical holiday elements - sequins, satin, bows - and make them look sexy and modern and playful. Well done. And what conditioner do you use, Ms. Weisz?

Who: Anne Hathaway, actress.

What: A tiered, ruffled Gianfranco Ferre top and skirt with shoes by the same designer.

When: Sunday, December 7, 2008.

Where: The Trevor Project's 11th Annual Cracked X-Mas Party in Los Angeles.

Why: Though this isn't the most flattering snapshot of the actress, I love this look. The sleek hair is such a perfect complement to the flounces and many delicate, layers of these feminine separates from Ferre's Spring 2009 collection. I think this ensemble is so urban while maintaining a lovely, prim sensibility. No wonder someone ponied over $12,000 at the fundraiser's auction to take the actress out.

Chic of the Week

Who: Actress Eva Mendes.

What: A full-skirted Luisa Beccaria dress with heels by Stella McCartney and Bulgari baubles.

When: Tuesday, December 2, 2008.

Where: A party for the upcoming film, The Spirit, in Madrid.

Why: Let me start this out by saying that usually I think Ms. Mendes is a fashion Don't. A bit of a disaster. I just maybe think she tries too hard and then just ends up missing the mark. But I am kind of beginning to think that the tides have turned. She has been looking fantastic at all of the various parties and photocalls for her new movie. I especially adore this off-the-shoulder dress she wore earlier in the week. So elegant. I am loving that Old Hollywood glamour is having a moment.
