Chic of the Week

Who: Supermodel Claudia Schiffer.

What: A killer RM by Roland Mouret dress, black heels and jewel-adorned minaudiere.

When: Tuesday, November 25, 2008.

Where: The 2008 British Fashion Awards.

Why: The German bombshell looked like a screen siren in this understated yet sexy frock. She shows that long sleeves and long skirts can be va-va-voom - so ditch those micro-minis and deep-v's, ladies! It's time to think about being sophisticated, not suggestive. The red lips and perfect blowout add to this ensemble's siren factor in an uber-glamorous way.

Chic of the Week

Who: Barbadian singer, Rihanna.

What: A lipstick red Gucci minidress paired with black tights and Gucci jewels.

When: Wednesday, November 19, 2008.

Where: The launch of the Gucci Tattoo Heart Collection to Benefit UNICEF event in Manhattan.

Why: I think sometimes Rihanna embodies the saying "A whole lotta look" (thanks, Tim Gunn), so I love how she's pared it down here, but still kept it edgy and sexy and true to her bold aesthetic.

All Hail Hayden-Harnett!

Target has been making some fantastic choices not only with their clothing capsule collections but have been building up a great deal of momentum with their limited edition accessories lines, most recently featuring Sigerson Morrison, Anya Hindmarch and Botkier.

Next up? Brooklyn-based design duo Hayden-Harnett. The label has been featured in pubs such as Lucky, O, WWD and InStyle and creates nearly everything under the sun - apparel, handbags, small leather goods, luggage, travel accessories and now, footwear.

Hayden-Harnett's collection for Target is every bit like their main line - with emphasis on shape and strong combinations of color and materials. Thankfully, prices range from $19.99 to $44.99 rather than the $400-700 price tags on the main line.

Even though the collection doesn't hit Target until December 28, it looks like it will be very worth the wait.

Chic of the Week

Who: Lucy Liu, DirtySexyMoney actress.

What: A knee-length Alberta Ferreti dress, with nude platform sandals and black clutch.

When: Wednesday, November 12, 2008.

Where: The store opening of Alberta Ferretti, Los Angeles.

Why: I love Lucy's easy, glossy hair and the mix of sophistication and comfort in her Alberta Ferretti dress. The color is pitch perfect with Miss Liu's coloring and not a hue you see on the red carpet often, though it is a super pretty and very soothing shade. I also adore her shoes and the extra length they lend to her frame - and kudos for not going the obvious route with a black pump!

What will you resort to?

As we slowly (or not so slowly - how is it already mid-November?!) move into the holiday season, it's time to start planning, or daydreaming about, delicious warm-weather winter vacations. As if on cue, in comes the Resort collections, with lovely little frocks and vacation-ready pieces to take us to sandy beaches and private cabanas.

This season's collections were more than impressive. More and more designers have been jumping on the resort bandwagon, to great results. What used to be just caftans and cover-ups, can now go to Bermuda and beyond. In other words, these looks would be just as right for work and play at home as they would put to test at far away destinations.

Here is how to work this year's pretty pastels, boho-tribal prints, black and white stripes and moody flowers that dominated the runways for Resort 2009 at a budget that might still allow you to actually pay for that much needed vacay.

Emanuel Ungaro Resort 2009; Twelve by Twelve Ruffle Collar Dress, $36 (available at Forever 21); Nicole Miller Resort 2009.

Oscar de la Renta Resort 2009; Ioanna dress, $385 (available at Tory Burch); Gucci Resort 2008.

Simon Wang Silk Mix Knitted Stripe Dress, $105.60 (available at ASOS); A look from the Phi Resort 2009 collection.
From left: Vera Wang Resort 2009; Fit & Flare Dress, $98 (available at Express); A look from Michael Kors Resort 2009 collection.

The Great Pretender

Gucci 'Babouska' High Heeled Sandals, $1195 (available at Gucci); PANTHER Stud Platform Sandal, $170 (available at Topshop).

These much-photographed studded Gucci's are to die for, but unfortunately the nearly $1200 price tag makes me die a little inside. Thank god for Topshop and their gorgeous variation on this popular style. Though the studs are used a little more sparingly on this version, I think it makes them all the more wearable, while still maintaining the sexy and tough look of the original.

Chic of the Week: Tie!

Who: Amy Adams, actress.

What: A crimson Lela Rose dress and Christian Louboutins.

When: Thursday, November 6, 2008.

Where: The 68th Annual Motion Picture Club’s Awards Luncheon in New York.

Why: Amy always has a very feminine sensibility that can sometimes err a little too old-fashioned. This knee-length ensemble is certainly reserved but maintains a sense of fun and girlishness with the row of frills that adorn the neckline. Keep up the good work, Ms. Adams!

Who: Olga Kurylenko, Bond Girl.

What: A bow-adorned jewel toned Yves Saint Laurent gown.

When: Tuesday, November 4, 2008.

Where: The Amsterdam premiere of the latest James Bond venture, Quantum of Solace.

Why: I adore jewel tones for fall, and this dress is absolutely rich and sumptuous. It's utterly sexy without being at all revealing and the velvet bow across the waist is total feminine perfection. I die.

Choice is Chic

A friendly reminder from the FB&F Girls:

Freedom is always fashionable. Speaking up is ceaselessly stylish. Though we may never have someone as elegant as Jackie O. taking up residence in the White House again, as she is arguably the chicest thing to ever hit politics, now is the time to make ourselves heard.

Be sure to vote today, if you haven't already.

Chic of [Last] Week

Who: Uma Thurman, actress.

What: A white, belted Zac Posen gown.

When: Thursday, October 30, 2008.

Where: The Young Patrons of Lincoln Center 5th Annual Fall Masquerade Gala, honoring Zac Posen, in Manhattan.

Why: Uma is working Goddess-chic in this asymmetrical creation from the designer's resort line. She looks positively radiant, her skin luminescent against the snow-white of this gown.
