Chic of the Week

Who: Kristin Davis, actress.

What: A gold pleated Donna Karan.

When: Tuesday, May 27, 2008.

Where: The NYC premiere of Sex and the City: The Movie.

Why: This dress is so soft and fluid and feminine--it looks like it was poured right on her. The ruffles at the bottom are soft and pretty, but not overly girly or fussy. So Old Hollywood and glamorous but utterly effortless.

Gone Native

Now, I'm not normally one for major beading, but I am embarking on a serious relationship with all things beaded this season. Well, not all things. I am loving the look of Native American beading on any and all accessories, from necklaces and bracelets to stylish and simple loafers.

There is something slightly boho, one part summer camp and somehow a perfect balance between tough and delicate in these tribally-inspired pieces. Whether it is a campy classic moccasin or a shoulder grazing earring, these little touches of interest and color will add that much-needed something extra to your summer look.

It's time to go native!

PS I love you...

...Chanel Iman!So divine in 3.1 Phillip Lim (pictured with the designer, at right), complete with calf to shoulder ruffles and a C-emblazoned belt, a cute and stylish wink at the Costume Institute gala's superhero theme. Cocktail hour never looked so chic.

We are in a major state of adoration.

The Rainbow Brigade

No longer drowning in a sea of bootleg jeans, we now can choose from trouser-style, super wide legs, straight leg, cropped, skinny, even skinnier...the list goes on and on. With so many shapes on the market, it's not surprising that denim designs have started to play with color as well. It's not a matter of rinse today but a matter of what shade of the rainbow you prefer. Whether it's a soft shade of pink or a shockingly bright shade of yellow, now is the time to put indigo aside and embrace the Rainbow Brite within you.

Dittos the Classic in Rose, $158 (available at Pink Mascara).

Urban Skinny Jean in Purple, $19.80 (available at Forever 21).

Morgan Low-Rise Skinny Jean in Blue, $48.50 (available at Delia's).

Rich & Skinny Sleek Skinny Jean in Aloe, $156 (available at Pink Mascara).

Bright Skinny Jean in Lemon Ice, $39.50 (available at Wet Seal).

L.A.M.B. Stovepipe Stretch Jean in Electric Red, $175 (available at Nordstrom).

Chic of the Week x2

To make up for last week's missing Chic of the Week (my apologies!), I have included two ladies in this week's post. And what better occasion to double up than with looks from fashion's version of the Olympics than the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute gala, which took place at the beginning of this week!

Who: German actress Diane Kruger.

What: A silver Alberta Ferretti, Fred Leighton Jewels and bright pink peeptoes.

When: Monday, May 5, 2008.

Where: Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute gala in Manhattan.

Why: I love the choice of short in a sea of long gowns and mile-long train, not to mention the quirky yet lovely (and semi-80s) pairing of fuschia with silver. Oh, and having Pacey as a date is not too shabby either.

Who: Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, model.

What: A multicolored, tiered strapless gown by Burberry.

When: Monday, May 5, 2008.

Where: Metropolitan Museum of Art's Costume Institute gala in Manhattan.

Why: The simple updo with a perfect bang, very sparse jewelry (which I love for evening) and interesting use of texture and color against this classic shape are perfection.
